Sean and Melissa
About Sean
I used to be an early childhood teacher at Jungdranunug Remote Community School in the East Kimberley of Western Australia. Its a harsh, remote area and it suited me just fine.I was there since the end of 2005 when I graduated with a Bachelor in K-7 Education, with a specialisation in Counselling, and a major in Aboriginal Studies. I did four years on that small cattle station and really loved working with the Indigenous people. I got a bit dis-ilusioned towards the end about teaching blackfellas to think and act like whitefellas and personally I think we should just let them be and stop being so paternalistic.
I did plenty of things before getting into teaching. I was a carpenter, furniture maker, travel guide and consultant, teachers aide, horticulturist, and many other menial roles. I travelled throughout South East Asia; lived on Christmas Island and then eventually ended up in Broome at University studying education. I did not even finish high-school so i think I did pretty well.
I battled with low energy levels and bad health for many years and that is the motivation for me to share my new lifestyle with you. My health and energy really excites me now and I am glad to share it with you.
About Melissa
Melissa is shy to write about herself so I will just write a few quick things about her. She is a Cebuano and one of four girls. Her family is very important to her and now she has heaps of cute nieces and nephews to be an aunty for. She always wanted to go and live in Australia as her favourite Aunty lives in Victoria. She got her wish a few years ago and is happy that Aware Adventures is a way for her to return home to Cebu often to see her family. Melissa is shy in Australia but outspoken in Cebu. My friends that know her from Australia are shocked when they see her here because she loses her shyness in her comfort zone.
Together
Melissa arrived in Australia in July 2008 after a long and challenging long distance relationship. We were married in January 2009 and have never looked back.
